The CityGirl Guide to ……Busy-Less Success
“You are busy out of misdirected guilt because you think if you do enough, you will be enough” BeMoreWithLess
I’ve never been much good at doing things slowly, one task at a time.
I’ve always had a myriad of projects and ideas and connections on the go at once, somewhat addicted to being very busy , doing more and more and enduring the last minute rush that comes with procrastination.
This of course had major drawbacks, especially to my health:
- Palpitations in my heart
So in recent times I’ve been learning to slow it all down a bit, becoming Busy-less if you like.
I couldn’t have come to a better country, Italy, to experience the opposite to my ultra busy CityGirl life in London.
Here ,you are taught the art of “fai niente” , “do nothing” and how to really embrace pleasure , a reward that being busy seldom allows you!
I’m now experiencing how much more can be accomplished and created if you commit to being less busy each day.
Since practising Busy-Less I have:
- Awakened the leader within and I am hearing myself/Intuition for the first time in years.
- Received invitations to write for 3 new media platforms!
- Lost weight whilst eating in a busy-less way.
- Detoxed my home of all the chaos that busyness brings
- And ironically , become more productive!
So Although I know you would like to skim read this blog, because let’s face it you too are an ultra busy City Girl no doubt ,I want you to commit to reading these simple tips slowly knowing that they will enable you to be more productive by doing less .
And remember that busyness does not equal success nor can it ever validate who you are.
Top Tips for Busy-Less Success
1: Wake up a little earlier and have your morning tea/coffee without any distractions, enjoy it and actually taste it fully.
2 Write a To Do list each morning and detox it down to the top 3 priorities for the day ahead.
Start by completing with the most pressing items on the list ,these create the greatest Brain Noise if not completed, so always do them first unless you want to feel drained all day.
3: Ditch distraction .Switch the phone and /or Internet off as you focus on the most pertinent tasks.
I went from being a Blackberry Addict to most recently cutting off my phone completely in true “Devil Wears Prada” style, it’s liberating!
4: Notice your breath. Ironically this is one super fast route to slowing everything else down and increasing productivity through greater vitality.
5: Reward yourself! Deep down we are all really 3-year-old kids inside .We want praise and we want reward. It all starts with us, If you can’t give yourself praise and reward don’t ever expect anyone else to give it to you either, so go ahead and end the day with a slow glass of wine , bath , a busy-less read of your favourite blog or book.
I am still learning and embracing this “foreign” busy-less path, let me know what you think , can you try it for yourself ?
