CityGirl Guide to…..Beauty
“Love of beauty is Taste. The creation of beauty is Art.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Things we value most in life usually come from huge voids early on, the perception that we didn’t have what we now seek.
Beauty for me remains one of those voids.
It is hard to feel anywhere near beautiful in a world where we are bombarded with images of what beautiful is supposed to look like. And it is not confined to females; the pressure on men is equal.
I see beauty in the perfection of events, in nature and of course in style. It took some time to drop the fantasy that beauty was a size 8 blonde with pearly whites, a tan and big boobs!
What we think eludes us most though, is still what we will go after in life, depending on how much we see a lack of it determines how far we will go in search of it.
Nowadays my search usually leads to the nearest Space NK store for a beauty product top up. For some they will go under the knife, others will starve and fall into bouts of depression by trying to live up to some fantasy idea that this is how they should look.
(Yes, depression and dis-orders are generally a result of an unobtainable fantasy you never quite reach)
I think most of us perceive a lack of beauty to some degree in our life; it is much easier after all to see it in others than in ourselves.
It is not easy though, to accept your own form of beauty.
At my worst I would get up and watch Fashion TV each morning, because I wanted to motivate myself not to eat too much that day, to somehow inject the image of the model into my mind in order to restrain myself, how sad!
Talk about trying to live up to an unrealistic fantasy, those were very dark days.
Yet this is so common in life, looking at others and feeling separate, not good enough, and ugly.
Many beauties that I know remain stuck in this same situation, not seeing themselves as beautiful, comparing themselves to the next girl/boy and living in fear of loss, ( there is a lot of anxiety linked to having beauty).
So is beauty ever really obtainable or is it some sort of illusion we are all trying to achieve?
I guess it depends on what you think beauty is. I no longer confine it to the physical body and this has freed me up massively.
I see it in clothes, jewellery, nature, art and the mind.
The latter being the most beautiful “beauty secret” of all.
I reiterate time and again that your perception and thought process determines what you think about yourself and what you think about yourself determines what you create for yourself in life.
Beautiful thoughts can indeed create a more beautiful reality.
You can create beauty and feel beautiful through the language you use about yourself and through self- appreciation rather than comparing yourself to others.
Miraculous things occurred for me when I started using the power of my mind (mainly encouraging statements) to feel more beautiful.
- My appetite reduced
- My weight stabilized
- I attracted some fabulous men and opportunities
I am convinced now that a mental detox is the greatest thing one can do for the body beautiful. Ditch the disgusting nasty thoughts you may have about yourself and body and instead commit to a more nourishing vocabulary about yourself.
You determine your own sense of beauty through those thoughts you have about yourself, comparing yourself to others’ beauty never works, it simply diminishes your beauty paving the way for disappointment.
So what are your thoughts around beauty? Is it some outside illusion you feel eludes you?
