CityGirl Guide: 5 Ways To Transform Your Stagnant Career
“What I couldn’t experience in my day job I created and experienced outside of it and ultimately transformed my Career, Health And Wealth”
It’s been exactly one year since I left the security of my day job as a secondary school Teacher behind.
I’m still celebrating!
This has been a year of integrating, developing and learning for me.
Despite all the new challenges, I’ve no regrets that I took the risk and transformed my career into what I really deserve.
It’s not that my day job was awful, in many ways it was very pleasant, teaching young minds every day brought much laughter and lightened the load of a laborious adult life.
Challenge leads to real growth
I was simply caught in the trap of the uncomfortable comfort zone.
Although it was cosy and safe to receive a regular salary, and to have somewhere to show up each day with no “big boss” responsibility, it was the most energy sucking and health deteriorating thing , to be stuck in a position where I couldn’t grow.
Like most Teachers, Corporates and Professionals I was in an environment where if you didn’t conform your career would never be born.
Needless to say I failed to conform!
I knew by the end of my first year teaching languages that I wanted to do something else, but I dimmed the noise with rationale and sometimes shopping or alcohol, in fear of the changes I would have to make.
Luckily today I’ve regained Grace and gone is the busyness, boredom and burn-out replaced by direction, purpose and vitality.
I know that many of you reading this may not be ready to take a leap and leave your current career so I’m sharing some tips that will help you transform where you’re currently at as you build momentum , clarity and confidence towards doing what you’d love .
5 Ways To Transform Your Career
1) If You Can’t Leave Learn To Breathe.
Learn to breathe deeply and fully throughout your day, this will add much needed vitality and energy to your body preventing burn-out and exhaustion which is inevitable when you’re stuck in a job you don’t enjoy.
2) Speak Less , Listen More.
The Universe constantly wants to get the truth to you concerning your real potential and what you’re capable of.
Your colleagues are likely to be your “wake-up callers” so pay close attention to what you hear and log any repetitive, direct guidance particularly compliments concerning your strengths and vocational skills. You’ll use these tangible reminders later to help you transition and transform.
3) Challenge Yourself.
If you’re feeling stagnant you’re feeling bored.
Go for promotion even if you don’t want to stay long-term, go for it anyway. You need challenge and inspiration right now and even the act of preparing for promotion signals to the whole world that you’re ready to soar!
4) Find Outside Interests.
The bottles of vino and the shopping sprees can only give you so much reward for living an unfulfilled life, you’ve got to find other ways to be inspired.
Join a group; go to a seminar, read new books, start writing, work out or cook.
Do whatever gives you the inspiration your day job can’t.
5) Get A Mentor.
I have to admit there were a lot of inspiring people behind my own career and lifestyle transformation. I employed and sought expertise wherever I could in order to generate enough esteem and courage to make the change.
Investing in your career is really an investment in your health and future wealth, seek the help and reap the benefits and remember when you’re 80% ready , JUMP!!
How are you currently feeling in your career? What prevents you making the changes you know it’s time to make?
